Dopamine is a neurochemical which can be thought of as the "happy molecule". Activities that bring us pleasure cause the brain to release it. This can include everything from music, to drugs. Kratom also effects dopamine levels. Both pharmaceutical garbage and herbal remedies can increase the release of this amazing substance. Anything that releases dopamine can also deplete our brains from producing and picking up on it when used in excess. This results in negative side effects such as aggression, lack of motivation, and poor memory, to name a few.
It's important to listen to your body and know the signs of dopamine deficiency because anything from television, to video games, gambling, sex, and drugs can burn us out and leave us feeling empty, and sad. This includes Coffee and Tobacco as well. Does this mean any activity that makes us feel good is bad and should be condemned or outlawed? No, it certainly doesn't. In fact, taking the stances that anything in excess which has temporary negative effects on our neurochemistry should be demonized is as ignorant as it is diabolical.
The point is that Kratom can be used to improve mood and quality of life in times of need. It should also be used responsibility so that we don't burn ourselves out. Know that Mitragyna speciosa is not like crack cocaine or methanphetamines. I just don't want to see someone out there be foolish and take so much of it that they throw their-selves into a chemical imbalance and then blame the herb. This is rather difficult to do in the first place because it should be obvious when enough is enough. It's our responsibility what we do with our bodies.
There are plenty of other substances which are legal and can cause a depletion of dopamine and other neurochemicals like serotonin. They are not criticized by law makers or mindlessly outlawed. It seems to be in the league of a conspiracy that something as beneficial as kratom can be thrown under the bus so quickly based on a few lies and lack of evidence to justify it. I'm speaking of course about the DEA's past attempt to make it illegal. With all that we know about the negative effects of excessive caffeine use and even "responsible" pharmaceutical drugs consumption, this should be a mainstream understanding.
It's also important and useful to know that any kind of substance like Kratom or even green tea, can effect our serotonin levels. When dopamine levels go up too high, serotonin goes down. Serotonin is used by the body as a precursor to make melatonin. Melatonin helps us sleep. This is why we want a balanced level of both these innate substances. Basically, Kratom should be used to adjust our neurochemicals as a form of self medicating. Use it responsibly, and encourage others to do so.
