Thai Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a member of the Coffee tree family. This plant contains many of the same alkaloids found in Chocolate and a series of alkaloids that effect the human opioid receptors.

Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis)
boswellia carteri resin
Goldenseal has more medicinal properties than I can even fit in this preview box. It's generally an immune boosting herb. Phytochemical studies back up its pharmacological benefits. One of it's constituents is known as berberine, and it's quite remarkable.

Introduction

The name of this entheogen is literally Greek for "intoxicating." It has been prized as an intoxicating plant across the pacific islands for a very long time. Many people appreciate it for its inebrieting, anti-septic, anesthetic, and sedative properties. It's not addictive and is very useful for its ability to help you sleep. It's great for meditation, and spiritual practice. This plant is one that people say "opens the third eye(pineal gland)". It's related to the black pepper plant. Today, it's used all over the world for its properties. The effects induce a physical sensation which leaves you feeling like cotton candy, and puts you in a giddy, and happy mood.

This stuff puts a smile on your face and is all natural. This means that it should not to be confused with designer drugs like that b.s. "spice" stuff, or anything like it. There has been nothing added to it, and it naturally produces phytochemicals. It produces effects which are sedative, much like alcohol only minus the stupor and horrible hang overs. Also, it doesn't seem to throw peoples emotional states way out of balance either. In other words, there really isn't such a thing as an "angry" sheller, while there is a phrase called "angry drunk". To top it all off, it has been clinically provden to reduce stress.

NOT dangerous

Contrary to popular belief, it does NOT seem to damage the liver. People of the Islands who consume it on a rather regular basis, do not seem to experience any adverse effects at all from using it daily. Believe me, they consume a lot of it too because its use is integrated with their culture and economy. Besides this, there is quite a bit of scientific inquiry into its phytochemical properties. There's a great book called Kava - The Pacific Elixir that discusses the clincal aspects of it, and thoroughly explores all of the health and ethnobotanical related questions you may have on the topic.

Preparation

It should be known that kava made with fresh roots is much more potent than what we have here in these United States. The dried root is all you can get in the states because the plants are literally kept on the down low by the islanders. If you want to have some brew made from the fresh root then you'll have to travel to the island yourself. They live in a really beautiful location where the people are happy, the crime rates are low, and there is an endless suppply of fresh kava.

While the dried root isn't as good as the fresh, it's still much better than nothing. Its important to know that the finer the powder is, the easier it is to work with both by our bodies, and a solvent like water or liquor (everclear). Its because more of the actual root material itself is exposed to the liquid of choice, thus the yileded extraction of organic compounds is increased. So keep this in mind when dealing with kava, and that is that the finer the consistency of the powdered root, the more effective it should be, assuming the quality is good.

Tradtionally, the preparation method is as simple as making a cold water tea. No heat is used because it destroys the potency. A tincture can be made too, and there are also extracts like a kavalactone paste extract that you can work with. Remember its soluble in water so alcohol is not needed, as the active phytochemicals are easily dissolved into cold water. Give it a good amount of time to soak. This will ensure a better drink.

Hawaii & Vanuatu Culture

This plant is found in a select few regions of the Pacific Islands. Its entheogenic use is also said to have originated from Vanuatu island, before making its way to surrounding islands. The most potent strains in the world is repeatedly suggested to come from Vanuatu Island. The culture on this island is very much integrated with use of kava. The Piper methysticum harvest is dried, powdered, and exported world-wide where laws permit, after under-going a drying process. This makes it an extremely valuable cash crop for the people of Vanuatau, as well as a major part of their economy. On the Island, it's well known as "the plant of happiness".

It's not hard to stumble across a fresh shell of this brew on the island. There are Kava bars all over Vanuatu. The government of Vanuatu has out-lawed alcohol while embracing this drink. The people there are really happy about this too. It doesn't seem to influence fights like alcohol, and the people love it because there are no hang over effects. When you wake up the morning after having a few shells, you feel refreshed, rebourn, rejuvinated, and well rested.

On a final note, i'd like to add that I happen to like the taste of it. I'm not the only one who likes the taste of it either. Did you see the islander eating the raw root like it was food? It's actually a really nice taste that most people enjoy. Finally, I gotta add that Kava is much more appealing than alcohol once you get to know it. It's so much better in many ways and just as satisfying for many, and more than satisfying for most.
