Stevia is a natural or holistic alternative to sugar. Holistic health practitioners suggest it to help those fighting cancer to heal and reverse the cell mutation process. It has other medicinal properties too. This pages includes everything you wanted to or needed to know about this valuable plant ally.

(Stevia rebaudiana) is a South American herb that's been used for its medicinal properties for centuries. The leaves of this holistic plant have a refreshing sweet taste, zero glycemic index, zero calories, and zero carbs. It is said to be 25-30 times sweeter tasting than sugar. It's also known among herbalist to stimulate alertness and counteract fatigue. It's claimed to facilitate digestion and gastrointestinal functions, regulate blood glucose levels, nourish the liver, pancreas and spleen; and help the body sustain a feeling of vitality and well being.

Let's Review.

Using The Medicine

Stevia can be used as a sweetener that will offer you mild medicinal benefits, or made into even more powerful holistic medicines like teas or tinctures. A tincture is made by soaking the plant matter in high proof alcohol like everclear for at least one month. It should be stored in a cool, dark place.

The benefits of making a tincture out weight those of a standard tea. Alcohol can dissolve and extract far more alkaloids than water. Where water can not extract non-polar constituents, alcohol can. So now you can see the benefit of using alcohol extraction techniques. These tinctures can be added to whatever it is that you would like to have sweetened, or added with others in powerful healing infusions.

In alternative medicine, multiple herbs are often combined to work together in what's known as "infusions". In this type of situation, it is useful because of its ability to aid in digestion. The digestive stimulation helps other compounds from different plants to absorb into your system better. The same is so for nutrients, minerals, and other life giving compounds found in your food. Therefore, Stevia can work symbiotically with various other natural remedies, making it a great ally in your quest for health and wellness.

Sun Tea's

This section is pretty self-exlamatory. Sun tea's are tea's that are made in the sun. Who would have guessed that? This method works great for separating the oils from the S. rebaudiana (scientific name) herb. They are a powerful form of alternative medicine. It can be placed in a window seal for around a month. A tincture dropper can be used to collect the oils floating at the top. What's left below the oils is still valuable so do not discard it. Some like to add the oils and remaining liquid to their tinctures. Both the oily remains and the water will have a sugar like taste and aroma.

Concentrate Your Tincture

You can keep the top off of the Stevia tincture to allow most of it to evaporate. What this does is ensures the final product is more concentrated. This way it takes far less of the liquid to get a lot more of the medicinal value out of your holistic healing remedy. The taste can be a bit heavy and many do not like a whole lot of liquid to be needed in order to take a dose. It too can be used as a sugar alternative by simply adding a few drops to anything you'd like to taste sweet.

Why go Stevia rebaudiana over sugar?

Sugar fuels cancer. Don't take my word for it, do some research. Sugar that exist in plants is a natural or holistic form of the chemical. Processed or synthesized sugar on the other hand, is more like a free-based drug. The art of health and well-being takes all of these factors into account. One of the main suggestions by herbal practitioners for fighting cancer is to reverse excessive sugar in-take. For this, Stevia is highly reccomended.
