Considered the most powerful of the Nicotiana species. Like all of the Nicotiana, it was used for many medical treatments and is smoked by Native American groups. Today, Nicotiana glauca is being studied to be used as a treatment for nicotine addiction since it does not contain nicotine. Instead, it's active ingredient is anabasine. It is also being investigated for use as a bio-fuel. Constituents:
Anabasine is closely chemically related to nicotine. This compound acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist.
Dosages: No clinical dosage information is available. A lethal dosage of 11 mg/kg to 16 mg/kg in mice has been reported. This lethal dosage information was tested using the synthesized compound, anabasine.
