Sinicuichi ( Heimia salicifolia )
Sinicuichi ( Heimia salicifolia )
Sinicuichi was used by the crazy arse Aztecs. It's potentially dangerous I would imagine. The story of its historic entheogenic use is fascinating though.

Sacred Tobacco (Nicotiana rustica)
nicotiana rustica tobacco
"Sacred Tobacc", aka Nicotiana rustica is imported from South America. It's not the same as that used in cigarettes. It's also used in ceremony..

Slender-Leaved Ice Plant Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum

ice plant nodiflorum mesembryanthemum

The scientific name of this plant is Mesembryanthemum Nodiflorum. It's very similar to an entheogen known as Kanna because it contains the same chemicals. These plants naturally produce pharmacological chemicals. Like Kanna, it contains the active constituent known as mesembrine. These two plants, and other species that contain the same constituents have a documented history of use for expanding consciousness.

Consciousness is a very important key to life and spirituality as we know it. Without consciousness, we are all un-aware of our full potential. Consciousness is what makes our lives worth while. If you were to realize that you're entire life was one lengthy black-out how would you feel about that? This concept is about awareness of self and surroundings. It is the key to enlightenment and part of a universal connection that we all share at the roots.

Chemistry of Mesmbrine

This alkaloid is known to be an SSRI ( Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor ). It's also known to be a weak inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase 4. These actions are what contribute to the anti-depressant effects of plants containing mesmbrine. These two entheogens are not the only species that produce interesting pharmacological compounds. There are over 400 botanicals discussed on this website that are considered pharmacological gold-mines. This is only the beginning. Nature in general, is an endless source of medicinal compounds.

This natral remedy for depression is one of many sacred, or "holy plants" that are native to Southern Africa. If you have spent any time browsing the ethnobotanical section on this website, then you will notice that the majority of these ethnobotanicals are from there. This culture is one that has embraced the use of these plants for life-times as medicine and spiritual catalyst. In my opinion the world should be more like Southern Africa.

WARNING: This particular species and others containing mesembrine should not be consumed before operating any type of motor vehicle. They should also not be taken in combination with prescription drugs or over the counter drugs. Consult your healthcare provider before use.

I wish you all the best in your journey towards enlightenment, healing, and self exploration. I also encourage you all to spread the word about natural botanical compounds that produce medicinal and psychoactive effects.
