Beware of false new age doctrine that is merely witchcraft in discuise and dangerous teachings and belief systems which will lead one down an accursed path. I bring this up because all of the Lotus plants and supplements have this stigma attached to it, as they are very popular among new age circles and I've seen evidence to believe that the blue lotus and white and pink all lean towards occultic because they seem to be idolized in a weird way. The majority of the blue lotus products on the market that I have tried have no effects. That doesn't mean there's no good lotus out there though. The teachings, false teachings tied with it are more dangerous that it is, for sure. I don't find this one too dangerous, upon thorough research. There doesn't seem to be ill effects that anyone has gotten from it either.
The White Lotus flower is closely related to Nymphaea caerulea, or the "Blue Lotus", and has similar properties and characteristics. Both are considered "entheogens" by some people because they can and have been used in a religious or spiritual context. Nymphaea ampla, or "white lotus", contains apomorphine and nuciferine, two powerful believed psychoactive phytochemicals. The plant itself is a pharmacological factory that produces microscopic wonders to science.
Effects
It was prized during World War II as a powerful anesthetic by herbalists when traditional opiate-based anesthetic drugs were not vailable. ( see also Kratom & Opium Lettuce ) The effects of the flower when ingested are said to cause euphoria and "floating sensations". The root of this ethnobotanical has been used by Monks and Nuns for hundreds of years. Typical preparation methods include disolving the flower into a tea or decoction. Alcohol extracts have been used medicinally as a pain killer. You rare see the roots for sale anywhere, but after years of reading academic journals and books I can tell you that generally all parts of plants are prized with certain exceptions.
Benefits
To describe it in my own words, it's very euphoric, calming, and brings with it an un-comparable state of clarity to mind. I can truly see why it has been used as an opiate alternative. It also has this potential herbalists believe to lift your mood, and bring on what I call "organic happiness". While it didn't leave me feeling drowsy, it does seem to help assist one towards falling asleep. The day after awaking from its inebriation, I felt rested like never before. Extracts and seeds of the White Lotus are readily available online. I suggest Metacrawler because they are not bias for fortune 500 companies and support the little guy. There have been numerous phytochemical studies by scientific researchers in their field of phytochemistry. I remember back in the day there were vendors selling the pure alkaloids online.. I'm not sure if they are still there or not.
You may have heard people throughout your life claim that there is no science behind "herbal remedies" or "herbalism", and yet there is a specific scientific field dedicated to such a study. Not only have these constituents been isolated and studied, but there are tons of scholarly journals on the subject. This is a "hidden in plain sight" phenominon. It baffles my mind that to this day I've never heard anyone mention it. Yet, over the years of Googling different phytochemcials produced by various plants such as the White Lotus, I have clearly observed pubchem databases filled with resources on the subject.
I would like to see the United States and other countries embrace herbalism, and give it the recognition that it deserves. For example, In Germany, herbalism has made its way into mainstream medicine, being practiced in hospitals! I think our country has a lot to learn from these people in regards to medicine and health care. I hope that this website, and this article on White Lotus ( Nymphaea ampla ) inspires some great change. I think each chemical constituent of this plant and others, such as food, should be listed on the dietary ingredient list just like the fat and sugar content, etc, on our foods.
Seeds
The Sacred White Lotus Flower doesn't grow like most other plants. First, the seeds are germinated. Then, they are anchored, meaning that they are placed into a small pot which is sealed so that water can get in, but the growing medium can't get out. Then, it's placed at the bottom of a container filled with water, or / like a pond. It grows like a lily.. literally, hints its cousins name 'the blue lotus lilly'. They are very easy to grow. It's an amazing sight to behold once it reaches the top and flowers. They are as beautiful as they feel.
