This is an interesting article that I wanted to put together in
order to explain why I think its important to understand the significance of the relationships
between various fields of interest. This is important to understand because it shows us how
meaningful everything really is in life. Both of these two interest have fascinated me as
long as I can ever remember. There is an intimate connection that they share which most
have failed to observe. The meaning and intimacy among all things in the cosmos doesn't stop
there. Join me on this journey toward seeing the sacred connectedness to all
things.
Why is meteorology cool and not boring? Meteorology is the study of atmospheric
elements interacting in an organic dance of epic complexity and coolness. Ethnobotany and
meteorology are directly connected because both human and plant life live and thrive off of
atmospheric and environmental resources. Not to mention, human beings require water and air
to breath and drink, as do the foods that we eat, and Meteorology has everything to do with
water and air. Ethnobotany is the study of the cultural use of botanicals. This field has
to do with nature, medicine, construction, dye, etc, or basically survival, and life. Both
fields revolve around nature based phenomena. The connection between the too is
intimate.
Think about how it rains down on all the food we eat and the trees that bring us
fresh air. Even a storm like a Hurricane may seem sinister, but they actually bring large
amounts of nourishment to entire continents in the form of water and air. They also spread
spores, seeds, and beneficial bacteria all around the globe. Hurricanes are also naturally
effective at balancing the Earths temperature between the poles, aka Global Temperature
Balance. They also literally create the barrier islands. There is a good chance that the
herbal remedies which you use, were brought nourishment via a severe tropical cyclone such
as a Hurricane.
I decided to make this a sub-section within the website dedicated to integrating
these two subjects. In other words, it's a section of articles on meteorology, on a
botanical website. Any new articles or videos on meteorology will be listed under a menu
section on this page only. These future articles will integrate the weather with holistic
plant based medicine and its lore. [ - Added 11/30/16 ]
Other Gulf Coast Hurricanes
Erin of '95
Opal of '95
Ivan of '04
Dennis of '05
The slideshow below is brought to you via gettyimages.com These images are from the
aftermath of Hurricane Opal of '95. The storm was HUGE, while moving quickly and intensifying
rapidly. The hurricane force winds extended hundreds of miles from the center. It buried
over 100 miles of coast line under around 20 feet of water. It took millions by surprise when it blew up over night into a record breaking storm. The north east quadrant of the storm,
and the eye both passed directly over Navarre in Santa Rosa County Florida the morning of
October 4th. Imagine how different it would have been at night. Some of us don't have to
imagine that at all, because we were here for Ivan.
