The Alchornea floribunda plant ( Iporuru ) grows wild in Sudan, Uganda, Cameroon, Central Africa, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome, and Pincipe. The plant is known by locals as Niando, or Iporuru. This shrub-like tree is also native to the flood-plains of the Amazon, where it has been prized for centuries. There, it spends the rainy season submerged with water.
For centuries tinctures made of the bark and leaf have been used medicinally. Alchornea floribunda (Iporuru, Niando) is used in Gabonese religions where the root has a reputation as an intoxicant and aphrodisiac. Niando is said to provide states of intense excitement. It shares the same phytochemicals as Chacruna and Mimosa hostilis ( used in Ayahuasca rituals by Shamans ). Back in the day you could buy it from The Bear. Due to illegally crack downs and sabotage, they no long carry 'spirit molecule' contaning plants, nor are they in business, others are.
The locals report that they learned to use the Iporuru root after observing gorillas. It has now been shown that gorillas in Equatorial Guinea and chimpanzees in the Republic of Guinea use the Alchornea floribunda root ( Niando, Iporuru ) as an intoxicant. This is not suprising considering the fascinating substances in which this plant contains. They are recurring, and psychedelic in nature if combined with certain natural MAOI substances.
Indigenous Amazonian peoples and Venezuelan's use the Iporuru roots for everything from treating arthritis, to an aphrodisiac, to an added ingredient for making Ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is a mixture of plants used by Shamans to induce deep spiritual states of being. Aphrodisiacs are substances, herbs, drugs, or medications that stimulate sexual desire, stamina, and pleasure.
Aside from being inebriating, it has also been used as a food, an antidote to poison, for ovarian problems, and even gastro-intestinal issues. Modern phytochemical research gives us a clear understanding of how these medicinal properties can be induced by Iporuru. It contains, among others: Alchorneine, Alchorneinone, Alkaloids, Anthranilic acid, Gentisinic acid, Isoalchorneine and Yohimbine. Yohimbine is a constituent found in another stimulant/aphrodisiac all together called Yohimbe! It's checmically very similar to Kratom, and also shares a relationship with Iboga related plants!
I doubt that you can find Niando for sale anywhere anymore.. It's very rare that anyone in the ethnobotanical community would even be familiar with it.. After the BBB was illegally raided back around 2011, most suppliers stopped selling 'grey area' botanicals. It's been about 7 years ( as of 2018 ) sense that dreaded day. So much has changed in the world of western ethnobotanical knowledge sense then. The attempt to spread and preserve sacred knowledge related to these important plants has continued to spread throughout the United States and the rest of the world today. I would like to bring in a biblical connotation to the subject.
This particular page on Niando ( Alchornea floribunda ) remains here as a symbol of that preserved knowledge and biblical warnings. This item is rather difficult to find , but it is out there. WakingHerbs has this sort of thing. Please consider the ten commandments if considering using this stuff, and the law. They are in Exodus chapter 20. I'm neither enouraging nor discouraging use. I am encouraging you to abide in the shadow of the Almighty though. A little biblical research can go a long way for you my friend. See the tripped out story below.
Our modern ways of life often leave us ill with ego. The Most High god has set forth rules which ensure our deliverance from evil. If we break these, we undergo a curse. When dealing with these plants, always prioritize the Almighty, use discernment, and avoid idolatry and false God worship, because it brings a curse. Plants like Iporuru have been placed here to co-exist with us. Everything in life has its purpose, and its reason.
Genesis 9:13 "I set My rainbow 🌈 in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth."
Revelation 4:: "After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me: which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be here after. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God."
