Red Larkspur is a psychedelic ( hallucinogenic ) plant used by Native Americans. It's considered extremely toxic and is potentially very dangerous. It appers to be native to California and Oregon.( plants.usda.gov )
The Native Americans knew how to utilize plants such as this one for what they consider enlightenment, strength, and spiritual/physical healng. How can something that's a poison have medicinal value? The Arndt–Schulz rule states that, "highly diluted pharmaca or poisons enhance life processes, while strong concentrations may inhibit these processes and even terminate them." They also used a wide range of other plants to induce these psychedelic visions, and/or for their medicinal value.
It has been thoroughly researched by Phytochemist. Phytochemist extract and research pharmacological chemicals created by plants. The following phytochemicals have been isolated and studied from Red Larkspur: diterpenoid alkaloids: hetisine, 2-dehydrohetisine, 6-deoxydelcorine, dictyocarpine, dihydrogadesine, methyllycaconitine, lycoctonine, takaosamine, nudicaulamine, nudicauline, and nudicaulidine.

Note: Most of these are potentially deadly in sufficient dosage. Some of them can trigger extremely unpleasant effects in users who are not experienced, prepared, or knowledgable on the matter.
